The Lampedusa 3-seater garden bench by Moia embodies the essence of elite outdoor furniture, where the warmth of living material meets a linear, solid, and rigorously geometric design. Crafted entirely from premium teak wood—the premier outdoor wood, historically celebrated for its extraordinary natural properties of strength, stability, and durability—this bench offers a welcoming, deep, and structured seat. Designed to complete romantic gardens, residential porches, or large terraces with a touch of noble craftsmanship, Lampedusa comes complete with a soft, matching cushion, with removable and washable covers, designed to maximize comfort during moments of relaxation in the open air.

Finishes, Shades, and Material Value

The Lampedusa bench enhances the organic and sumptuous characteristics of natural wood, pairing them with bright and versatile cushions:

  • Natural Teak Structure: The wood features warm blonde and golden hues, rich in unique grain that testifies to the authenticity of the raw material. When exposed to the outdoors, teak evolves over time, developing a refined, protective silver-gray patina, iconic of wood exposed to the sun.
  • Ecru Seat Cushion: A neutral, understated, and elegant shade that visually breaks up the wood's texture and coordinates beautifully with both Mediterranean layouts and botanical and classical garden settings.

Material Details and Maintenance Guidelines

1. Solid Teak Wood Structure

Teak is a tropical wood naturally rich in water-repellent oleoresins, essential oils, and silica. This internal chemical composition makes it exceptionally immune to the degrading effects of rain, nighttime humidity, temperature fluctuations, and UV exposure, protecting it from rot, cracking, and pest attacks.
Use and Maintenance: To remove dust, pollen, or environmental residues, wash the bench with a soft-bristled brush and a solution of fresh water and neutral soap (or specific wood cleaners). If you want to maintain the original golden color of the teak, we recommend applying a thin layer of protective teak oil once or twice a year. If you prefer the vintage look of aged wood, you can omit the treatment and let the wood develop its natural silvery patina.

2. Removable Cushion Covers in Ecru Fabric

The cushion is padded with polyurethane foam and covered with a washable technical polyester fabric, treated to resist external wear and tear and ultraviolet radiation.
Use and Maintenance: Thanks to the concealed perimeter zipper, the cushion cover is completely removable. The ecru cover can be hand washed or machine washed on a delicate cycle at low temperatures (max 30°C), excluding the spin cycle and the dryer. In case of sudden rainstorms or during winter storage, it is recommended to remove the cushion and store it in a dry place.

Benefits and Design

  • Linear Design and Welcoming Comfort: The architecture of the Lampedusa bench applies essential geometric rigor. The vertical slats of the backrest and the horizontal slats of the seat follow a calibrated anatomical inclination that accommodates the body's silhouette, evenly relieving tension in the back.
  • Structural Strength and Long-Lasting Durability: The bench boasts interlocking joints and high-quality internal hardware, designed to withstand heavy and continuous loads without sagging or showing structural oscillations, ensuring solid and reassuring stability on the ground.
  • Soft-Comfort Cushion Included: Unlike many benches sold without supports, Moia includes a thick cushion that eliminates the wood's native stiffness. This accessory transforms a common garden seat into a true relaxation spot, ideal for long readings or conversations.
  • Protective Insulation Feet: The bases of the teak legs are equipped with small protective insulating dowels. This feature prevents direct contact between the wood and theconstant soil moisture or standing water on the flooring, while also protecting the terrace tiles from rubbing or scratching.

FAQ

What happens if the Lampedusa bench is left exposed to rain without a cover?
The teak structure will not suffer any structural damage: water does not penetrate thanks to the wood's natural protective oils, eliminating the risk of warping or rotting. The only mandatory precaution concerns the ecru cushion: in case of heavy rain, it should be removed immediately and stored indoors, to prevent the padding from soaking up water and requiring several hours to dry.

Does the teak bench need to be stored indoors during the winter months?
Although teak is such a durable material that it can be stored outdoors over the winter, to preserve the wood's clean aesthetic and prevent winter smog, constant frost, and leaf deposits from creating dark patinas or surface mold, we strongly recommend cleaning the bench in the fall and protecting it with a breathable and waterproof cover, or placing it under a sheltered porch.

How can I remove any silver-gray patina if I prefer the original teak color?
If the bench has been exposed to the sun and has developed the characteristic grayish color, it is possible to easily restore the original golden tone. Simply sand the surface lightly with very fine-grained sandpaper to remove the oxidized surface layer, then apply a coat of teak oil, which will nourish the wood fibers and bring out the warm blond hues.
