Design: Jaime Hayón - 2016
Spanish artist-designer Jaime Hayón was born in Madrid in 1974.
After studying industrial design in Madrid and Paris, in 1997 he joined Fabrica, the communications research center founded by Benetton, where he directed the design department until 2003. Hayón founded his own studio in 2000 and from 2003 onwards has dedicated himself entirely to his personal projects. Today, he is one of the most highly regarded creatives internationally.
Hayón's appreciation and understanding of artisanal skills, along with his innate creativity, have allowed him to experiment with numerous media and functions, creating collections for a wide range of clients. His interest in preserving artisanal skills has led him to meet with high-end traditional companies interested in evolving his work. He has created furniture collections for Fritz Hansen, Magis, Established and Sons, Bisazza, B.D. Barcelona, Se London, Bernhardt Design, Ceccotti, and Moooi. Hayón has also designed several lighting collections for Metalarte and in collaboration with Swarovski and Baccarat. He has created accessories for Piper Heidsieck, Gaia and Gino, and The Rug Company. In 2013, he designed his first wristwatch collection for the new Swiss brand OROLOG. These collections have placed Jaime at the forefront of a new wave of creatives pushing the boundaries of art, furniture, and design, and a resurgence of intricate, expertly crafted objects within contemporary design culture.
