Design: Floris Hovers
Floris Hovers was born in 1976 in Raamsdonksveer, in the south of the Netherlands. After basic training in technical and advertising in Utrecht, he studied at the Design Academy in Eindhoven where he graduated in 2004. In 2006 he founded his own design studio and laboratory in Raamsdonksveer. A simple and basic approach to techniques and materials are the essential tools for Hovers to communicate his vision and his working method. He is often attracted by industrial forms and basic structures and is fascinated by the creation of small and simple objects, such as handmade toys.
His business is halfway between an idyllic artisan workshop and a mass production factory: two extremes that are a constant in all of his work, which he himself describes as industrial craftsmanship. Hovers mainly produces works on his own, taking care of the entire process, from the idea to the finished product. He believes that the designer can also be a craftsman who creates his own projects. In addition to his own projects, Hovers also works for other brands and manufacturers, including Magis.
