Horm Sideboard NotRiddled
Not Riddled features diamond-shaped doors that open and close without the use of hinges. Steven Holl was able to shape a sheet of wood-fabric which, thanks to small laser incisions, can be folded like origami, embracing the sides of the container. Not Riddled is the sublimation of a contemporary aesthetic and an intelligent application of mechanical innovation.
Description:
The container doors have no metal hinges for fixing to the structure. The hinge function is performed by the fabric inside the door. The doors were subjected to 50,000 opening cycles, brilliantly passing the test: "UNI 8607:2005 door durability".
Materials:
Structure in wood particle panels or lacquered MDF. Sides and doors made with a material created and patented by Horm composed of a sandwich of veneered canaletto walnut and fabric with a thickness of 2.2 mm which, thanks to surface incisions made with laser cutting, is folded like origami. Shelves in transparent tempered glass, polished edge, 5 mm thick.
