The Twins chair made entirely of 100% FSC teak, simple and natural, is the original result of the interesting design ability of the designer Sebastia Herkner and the know-how of EMU. Twins stands out for the softness of its shapes which make the seat beautiful and comfortable. The teak used is grade A, which meets very rigorous aesthetic requirements. The products that make up the collection are shipped to the customer fully assembled, natural finish, without protective oils. For the cushions, the entire range of fabrics in the Emu catalog will be available. The teak product is more functional in particularly hot environments and climates, which prefer the use of products that do not have metal in contact with guests during use; both the full teak version and the alu-teak version are suitable for use in marine areas and on boats. All the teak components (for example the individual seat slats, the armrest) are in solid teak, i.e. they are shaped from a single piece of wood and not from glued strips; these make the products more reliable, of greater value and justify their price/quality level. The teak is grade A, which is the second highest grade after superior grade. This grade, recognized by an international measurement and certification method, is determined by the mix of color and grain that define the aesthetics of teak. The teak comes from Indonesia and is FSC certified and therefore responsibly managed. Each teak component is a natural material, has grains and colors that can vary from component to component. This characteristic determines its uniqueness. Teak is a wood and as such it must be treated periodically. Twins is a complete collection that erases the boundaries between exterior and interior and offers dining seats with and without armrests, lounge chairs, sofas and tables, as well as a vast range of fabrics and upholstery with which it is possible to customize seats and backrests.

DESIGNER

Sebastian Herkner

BIOGRAPHY

Sebastian Herkner (born 1981) studied Product Design at HfG Offenbach University of Art and Design. During his studies he began to dedicate himself to the design of objects and furniture, honing his keen sense towards materials, colors and textures. For a short time he worked for Stella McCartney in London. In 2006 Sebastian Herkner founded his studio and since then has designed furniture, lamps and small objects for brands such as Ames, and Tradition, Cappellini, ClassiCon, Dedon, Emu, Gubi, Linteloo, Moroso, Pulpo, Rosenthal, Schramm Werkstätten, Thonet, Wittmann and Zanotta. Herkner also deals with interior architecture, museum and exhibition projects. His works have received numerous awards, including the IF Award, the Iconic Award and the Elle Deco International Design Award (EDIDA). As Guest of Honor at Imm Cologne 2016, Sebastian Herkner was responsible for the design for “Das Haus”. In 2019 Maison&Objet elected him "Designer of the Year" and in 2020 he won the most prestigious design award in Milan: the EDIDA award as best designer of the year. His is an unconditional love for traditional craftsmanship, combined with an acute sensitivity towards new technologies and an innate talent in conceiving authentic colours, materials and textures. What characterizes him is a genuine curiosity towards different cultures, the desire to embrace and integrate them, a constant commitment and responsibility towards the things and people he works with, not to mention the consideration and respect towards every single process necessary for the purpose to create a unique object. Since the success of the Bell Table for ClassiCon in 2012, Sebastian Herkner has never looked back, while remaining true to his words and himself. Balance and intuition are important factors that ensure continuity in his work. A work that he sees as a continuous dialogue between different disciplines and that takes him to the most remote corners of the world, in search of almost forgotten artisan techniques, crafts with a centuries-old tradition, "Sleeping Beauty" manufacturing that the designer wants to awaken from their numbness. In designing Sebastian not only designs chairs, sofas, lamps, tables, vases and carpets, but an entire cosmos through which the designer expresses the influence that his objects have on the senses, the importance of beauty cultivated already within the process itself and its empathy towards people.

Maintenance:

Teak - Since this is a natural material, you may observe color variations or even cracks due to the degree of humidity and sudden changes in temperature. If it does not receive any maintenance treatment through the periodic application of common and specific oil-based protectants, the surface will take on a silver gray patina which can also be eliminated with light surface sanding and subsequent polishing with a jute cloth. Small surface stains due to oil or other food products must be removed promptly, before the wood can absorb them deeply, by sanding the affected surface and polishing with a jute cloth. When the wood gets wet for the first time it is normal for the surface to become a little rough when it dries and the initial smoothness can be restored with a light surface sanding and subsequent polishing with a jute cloth.

Cuscuni - EMU uses the most advanced technologies in the textile sector to create outdoor furniture. The materials are resistant to splashes of water, UV rays, salt and sweat, without losing their structural and comfort characteristics. It is advisable, after the rain, to dry the furnishings with fabrics in order to prevent the formation of damp stains and mould. To improve the longevity of the products, EMU recommends storing them, in the event of prolonged periods of non-use (e.g. autumn/winter) or incessant rain, in a closed, ventilated and dry place, covering them with sheets to keep them at their best and protect them from dust and dirt. Before storing them, make sure they are perfectly dry. The covers/coverings are recommended for outdoor use but for short periods. The covers are not to be considered an alternative to winter storage of the products. In case of rain, always check that no humidity forms between the lining and the products in order to prevent any mold as, as the fabrics are textile products, the presence of residual humidity is possible and can cause mould. All materials meet the most rigorous quality standards for outdoor use and the fabrics are quick drying and easy to maintain. It is advisable to avoid prolonged contact with greasy substances and/or dyes which could be absorbed by the covering material and give rise to permanent stains, as well as deteriorating the structure of the yarn. If used near the sea or swimming pools, periodic washing is recommended. Frequent washing: follow the specific instructions for each material shown on the appropriate label. Use water and non-abrasive liquid detergents with neutral PH and colorless. If necessary, leave the detergent to act for a few minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. If using pressure devices, keep the tip of the diffuser at a distance of at least 60/70 cm from the surface of the product. If necessary repeat the operation. Do not use abrasive sponges to remove stains and do not treat with bleach or chlorine.
